Today I finally made it over to Blink Fitness located in Yonkers at the Cross County Shopping Center. I was very excited to visit knowing they are owned by Equinox. Being a former member of Equinox in Eastchester I expected a great gym and I was right....sort of. They do not offer the same wonderful classes and instructors/trainers as offered at Equinox but then again what does one expect for $20 per month which was a HUGE difference from the cost at Equinox.

I met with a lovely young lady named Miyan (sp?) who gave me a tour of the facility and explained the gym's concept to me. Upon entering members check-in using a kiosk and nearby are vending machines filled with healthy snacks and beverages. Also located in front are lockers for members who do not need to use change rooms and want a quick check in. They have rows of brand new Lifestyle Cardio machines (treadmills, cycles and eliptical) and lots of weights. Large flat screen televisions are located in front of the cardio machines and all of the machines have ipod connections. All of the cardio machines have a connection to the tv and fm radio using earphones which I found pretty cool. The music was playing throughout the gym at a nice level, not too loud that you could not hear your own audio device but loud enough to keep one motivated. The rest/shower room was very clean. Of importance to me was internet access via my smartphone (Verizon Droid Incredible) since I would likely download workout apps to use during my strength training. The connection was very fast so I'm looking forward to researching some apps. The parking is ample given it's in a shopping complex. I plan on using the 2 day trial membership this weekend and will most likely sign up after. I definitely recommend visiting this gym if you are looking for an affordable gym.
