Curlbox and Ouidad Ready to Hair Event

As I was looking through my instagram yesterday I noticed a post about a Private Event hosted by Curlbox and Ouidad on Myleik of Curlbox's page. I jumped up....A Private CURLBOX event in NYC??? I MUST find a way in! I sent an email asking if it was too late to attend and to my surprise within a few minutes I received a reply...."SURE". I quickly began wrapping things up in the office so that I could make the trip from Yonkers down to the Ouidad Salon on W57th.
I had seen the pictures of the LONG lines at the Curlbox and Karen's Body Beautiful event in Brooklyn so I headed down as early as I could preparing to meet my naturalistas and chat it up on line. The event was from 6-9pm so I arrived at the salon at 5pm!!! To my surprise there were NO lines! The lovely folks at Ouidad allowed me to take a seat while I waited. Check out the pic I found via Curlbox on Instagram of me patiently waiting :-) while @chescaleigh and @lone_natural (ROCKING those Red sneakers!!) chat it up.

I was uber excited to meet all of the ladies I already knew via Instagram. Folks really didn't start arriving until 5:45pm. Hey you never know how these things turn out. The early bird catches the worm!!! At 6pm the ladies starting rolling in and the event began.
The 1st person I recognized was Melshary (instagram: Melshary) who arrived with her friend Jessica. Those curls look even more beautiful in person!

Ouidad is a lovely salon and during this event it was full of absolutely beautiful curly natural ladies.

Myleik and Ouidad know how to host a classy event!  We were served wine & champagne, hors d'oeuvres and some great desserts.  We were also provided individual curl consultations by Ouidad's curl experts as we were introduced to Ouidad's new Curl Co-Wash and Mongongo Oil.

Mother's Day Bossa Nova Brunch at SOB's

This year as I thought about the location for Mother's Day brunch I considered a few establishments. I wanted a location that would offer good music, food and fun. I also wanted a place we could chill relax and celebrate the day. I had been to SOB's over the years but I had never attended their Bossa Nova Sunday Brunch. At a pre-fix price of $28.99 per person for a 3 course brunch menu, a live jazz band and unlimited Sangria I had to give it a try.

2012 Self Magazine Workout In The Park

On Saturday May 12 I attended Self Magazine's Annual Workout In The Park for the 5th time. In NYC the event is held in Rumsey Playfield in Central Park. This annual event is from 11am to 3pm and features workouts hosted by the amazing instructors at CRUNCH gym. The event also provides giveaways, samplings, prizes, workshops, FREE swag and a year subscription to the magazine is included in the $20 ticket fee. The event is designed to bring Self's message and education of total well being to its readers.
If you have never been to this event I highly recommend attending. There is a feeling of sisterhood that one feels as soon as one walks in the park. There are woman of ALL shapes and sizes.....and a few men too!

Opening Night at Havana Central

I was excited to attend the Ribbon Cutting Night at the newest Havana Central located in YONKERS at Ridge Hill.  The 1st Havana Central was opened on June 24th, 2002.  Currently there are 3 locations: Times Square, Broadway between 113 and 114th Streets and their newest location now OPEN in YONKERS!  Havana Central's goal is to celebrate Cuban culture, food and music!  I've been to all 3 locations and each offers that latin feel that makes me feel right at home!

Dinner at Brio Tuscan Grille at Ridge Hill in Yonkers

During a recent visit to Ridge Hill in Yonkers I enjoyed a nice dinner at Brio Tuscan Grille.  It's a fairly large space and the tables are set wide apart giving everyone room to move around.  The atmosphere was great and the staff was extremely attentive.  A great stop during a day of shopping.

The entrees were good but the Margherita Flatbread appetizer and Torta Di Cioccolata were GREAT!
